Exbury Gardens is a charitable company registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales (registration number 801349).
The charity's principal objectives are to:
- Maintain, improve and develop Exbury Gardens in Hampshire.
- To open the gardens to the public.
- To advance horticultural science, knowledge and learning for the public benefit.
As a registered charity, we are extremely grateful for the generosity of those who make donations, which help us maintain, improve and develop the gardens.
There are several ways you can help.
Gift Aid
Gift Aid is a scheme that increases the value of donations given to charities like us by UK tax payers. It allows us to claim an extra 25p from the government for every £1 that people donate, provided that two rules are followed:
The annual right of admission rule.
This means that if you become a Friends of Exbury member, the whole of your membership fee is regarded as a donation, as it grants you admission for a year. The whole amount is, therefore, eligible for Gift Aid.
The admission charge plus 10% rule.
This means that, if a donation is made of at least 10% more than the cost of standard admission, this combined payment is eligible for Gift Aid. This is why the admission charge with Gift Aid is 10% more than the standard charge. Please note that we are able to claim 25p for every £1 of the whole amount (admission fee plus donation), not just the additional 10%.
Donations
Donations may be made at any of the gardens' admission tills. We really appreciate all donations- large and small. If you are a UK tax payer, please consider Gift Aid as this will increase the value of your donation by 25p for every £1 donated.
