Exhibition by New Forest Botanical Painting Archive

14th Sep 2024 10:30 - 22nd Sep 2024

The painters hope to create a very personal and individual archive of plantlife, Lichens, Fungi and Trees in the New Forest for future generations to see, but in the process also to highlight some of the issues that climate change brings to such a biodiverse area. The group intend to capture some of the hundreds of unusual and threatened plants found in the New Forest in an archive for future generations to refer to.

The Botanical paintings are as accurate as possible while demonstrating the beauty and variation of biodiversity in the forest. The painters are careful to work with sketches, photographs and notation taken in the field and all helping to make as accurate a representation as possible. The work can take many hours, fighting weather in the field to gather as much information as possible followed by work with tiny brushstokes often applied under a magnifying glass. Each plant will have identifying characteristics and these all need to be carefully recorded.

Free with gardens admission or Friends of Exbury membership.
