Evening talk - Dragonflies are Important: Gardeners Can Help!

11th Jul 2024 19:30

We have an extra treat in store during Dragonfly Week (6th - 14th July 2024)  for anyone with an interest in the nature of the gardens - particularly its dragonflies.

Renowned naturalist and author of The Dragonfly Diaries Ruary Mackenzie Dodds, described by TV personality Chris Packham as "the greatest ambassador these insects have had in the UK…" will be giving an evening talk entitled Dragonflies are important - Gardeners can help!

Why are dragonflies important? What’s so special about them? How fast do they fly? Do they sting? Where do they spend most of their lives? And so on!

In a 45 minute illustrated talk, Ruary will turn you into experts on all things dragonfly, and show you why seeing dragonflies over ponds and lakes and rivers is so important for us. And, at her demo table, Kari will demonstrate the most vital part of dragonflies’ lives.

This event will also be the unofficial launch of ‘Dragonfly-Friendly Gardening’, Ruary and Kari’s how-to book on gardening for dragonflies.

The talk will be held in the Azalea Room adjacent to Mr Eddy's restaurant.

Tickets are £6 including light refreshments.  (Garden admission tickets not required).
