Glasshouse productivity

16th May 2023

Glasshouses have more uses than you might think: they protect plants, of course, but also offer shelter to various birds. At Exbury we regularly get robins, blackbirds and pied wagtails making their nests between the pots on the benches. They get watered along with the plants and seem not to mind. This year a robin was the first to get going and its brood of 4 fledged some days ago. But the year’s star nest belongs to a pied wagtail, whose five baby chicks are thriving and should also fledge before too long.
