Rhododendrons - Our Recommendations
Exbury Head Gardener John Anderson recommends the following rhododendrons be top of your list to discover on your trip to the Gardens:
Rhododendron ‘Bach Choir’ AM 1988
Named by Leopold de Rothschild after his choir. He describes the salmon flower colour as “unusual and subtle.”
Rhododendron ‘Edmund de Rothschild’ AM 1965 FCC 1993
Pure red, bold flowers. The plant has been described as ‘commanding’ and ‘upstanding’.
Rhododendron ‘Crest’ FCC 1953
Though the plants can be leggy the yellow colour of the flowers is world class.
Rhododendron ‘Kilimanjaro’ FCC 1947
‘A superb, pure red’ says Ken Cox, experienced Exbury Gardener.
Rhododendron ‘Fortune’ FCC 1938
As much admired for the huge leaves as the huge flowers.
Rhododendron ‘Bow Bells’ AM 1935
Charming, early pink bells are followed by coppery-coloured young foliage.
