New Plantings

Heather bedsThe deciduous Azalea Bed on the Azalea Drive has been completed with new plantings of Azaleas and Japanese Maples. This will be even more colourful this spring.

By the side of Top Pond and to the side of the cascades a major refurbishment of a very large shrub border is underway. Removal of old and poor specimen rhododendrons will give a chance to rotovate in some organic matter before planting new stock from the gardens nursery.

The final planting will be completed around the Board Walk with more large leaved and exotic foliage plants dominating the area. Already planted are several tree ferns, large and small bamboo, Wollemi pines, Ginkgo, Castor Oil shrub, Chusan Palms, Devils walking Stick tree and some of the large leaved industrial rhubarbs.

The Heather Beds are looking good at the moment and will continue to be a star attraction until the end of March. Several new trees with attractive barks have been planted in this area to give added interest.

The New Camellia Walk will be looking very good this year with lots of swollen buds about to erupt into flower.
