Golden gift for Exbury Mothering Sunday visitors
Every lady visiting Exbury on Mothering Sunday 14 March will receive a complimentary bunch of golden daffodils to mark the special day.
Although Exbury’s famous ‘field of the cloth of gold’ – a swathe of daffodils stretching down to the Beaulieu River – has been held back because of the hard winter, there will still be lots of interest in the Gardens.
“Exbury is famous for its carpets of daffodils in the Field of the Cloth of Gold and although late this year we’d still like to share daffodils with our visitors on this special day,” said Nicholas de Rothschild, whose family manage the Gardens as a Charitable Trust. “This gift is a token of appreciation to those who love the Gardens as much as we do.”
To celebrate both daffodils and Mothering Sunday the engine of the Garden’s Railway will be decorated with flowers and greenery cut from the Gardens. Visitors will also be able to enjoy the new Camellia Walk, planted several years ago and now reaching maturity. Other Mothering Sunday treats include the Heather Garden, looking at its early spring best, fragrant daphnes flowering by the Cascades in Home Wood, and tracts of equally fragrant witch hazel.
The Exbury Plant Centre will be full of spring gardening ideas, with a wide range of camellias and early flowering rhododendrons for sale.
Exbury Gardens are open daily from 10am-5pm (or dusk) until early November. Please visit www.exbury.co.uk or telephone 023 8089 1203 for details
