What to see in the garden on your visit.

Home Wood:
Cornus in Home WoodBy Lovers Lane Cross Roads & in Home Wood, the Asian Dogwoods Cornus kousa are still in flower. The bracts fade from cream to pink as the flowers mature. Close by and on the opposite side is a large shrub of Silver bells (Styrax japonicus) with pendulous white flowers.

Throughout Home Wood a number of late flowering Rhododendrons still provide colour. Look out for the scented white flowering Rh auriculatum near the Top Pond area, together with the pink flowering Rh. ‘Damozel’.

The Herbaceous Border always has something of interest. At this time of the year, Euphorbia, Iris, Thalictrums, Peonies,  Libertia,  are well worth seeking out. Look out for the bark of the Acer griseum (Chinese Paper-bark Maple). From New Zealand the Leptospermum scoparium will soon erupt with masses of small dark red flowers.

The Iris Garden will soon be at its peak; close by is Liriodendron (The Tulip Tree) in full flower.

The Home Wood Cascades continue to provide much interest with displays of Candelabra primulas.

Yard Wood:
The Common spotted-orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) in Yard Wood by the slopes down to Jubilee Pond are flowering in greater number than usual.

Witchers Wood:
Look out for Magnolia macrophylla and M. ashei with very large white scented flowers. These Magnolia are native to the USA.
