What to look out for in the garden on your visit:

Autumn Colour is looking good in several areas of the garden due to the dry weather and cooler nights. Look out for the Japanese Maples (Acer palmatum) in Home Wood & Yard Wood, Sweet Gums (Liquidambar styraciflua) all around the garden, especially on the Main Lawn, by the side of the House and Yard Wood. The Tupelo Tree (Nyssa sylvatica & N. sinensis) in Yard Wood by Jubilee Pond and the Top and Lower Ponds in Home Wood.  It’s a great year for fruit and many of the ornamental plants Pyracantha, Hippophae rhamnoides, Vacciniums, Malus and Sorbus are all laden. Look out for various Fungi springing up all over the gardens.

The Herbaceous Border by the Five Arrows Gallery is full of interesting perennials including  the following: Japanese Anemones (Anemone hupehensis),  Kaffir Lilies (Schizostylis), Nerine x bowdenii outside  the Five Arrows Gallery and the Jewel Lilies (Nerine sarniensis) inside.  The border continues to give an abundance of colour right into the late autumn when the Liriopes and Grasses provide late interest.

The Sundial Garden is well worth a visit to see its wide variety of flowering plants. The Sundial Garden is Exbury’s Secret Garden - a magical area filled with exotic plants. Not to be missed are the Salvias, Dahlias, Fuchsias, and Cobaea scandens  “Cup and Saucer Plant” with large white or purple flowers.

Projects:
The 2 acre Rock Garden is undergoing a great transformation, many of the dwarf rhododendrons have been cut back hard to rejuvenate them into better flowering compact shrubs.
